The 70-300 mm is a telephoto zoom found in many photo bags, because, compared to a 70-200 mm f/2.8, it is relatively cheap, compact and light. The bigger zoom range is nice bonus. But with older 70-300 mm zooms, the sharpness in the corners lags somewhat behind the center. Also, the overall sharpness at the longest focal length is usually not that great. And the autofocus speed of older zoom lenses is noticeably slower. But that does not apply for the new Nikon AF-P 70-300 mm ED VR zoom: the sharpness stays good from 70 to 300 mm.
De 70-300mm is een telezoom die in vele fototassen te vinden, omdat die in vergelijking met een 70-200mm f/2.8 relatief goedkoop, compact en licht is. Het grotere zoombereik is daarbij mooi meegenomen. Maar bij oudere 70-300mm zooms blijft de scherpte in de hoeken wat achter op het centrum. Ook is de algehele scherpte bij de langste brandpuntsafstand meestal iets minder. En de autofocus snelheid van oudere zoomlenzen is duidelijk merkbaar minder. Maar dat geldt niet voor de nieuwe Nikon AF-P 70-300mm ED VR zoom: de scherpte blijft mooi van 70 tot en met 300mm.
