It would make my life a lot easier if camera manufacturers were to choose simpler names for their products. Because with "Nikon AF-S 18-200 mm f / 3.5-5.6 G IF-ED VR II DX" I don't immediately think of a product for photographers who are just starting out with their hobby. Don't be put off by that difficult name. Nikon 18-200 mm is the only thing you have to remember if you are looking for an affordable, versatile zoom lens that is suitable for almost any kind of photography. That applies just as well to the starter who (just) has bought his first Nikon SLR camera, as well as to the amateur photographer who wants to photograph "without hassle". Or if you don't feel like carrying all sorts of lenses with you on vacation.
And the image quality? Of course, a Swiss Army knife does not offer the same quality as a professional Japanese knife set. Still, the image quality of the Nikon 18-200 mm is a major step forward in comparison with a smartphone or compact camera. With a Nikon 18-200 mm you will have a lot of fun while shooting without worrying about changing a lens. I know photographers who are so happy with their Nikon 18-200 mm that it has remained permanently on the camera.

Mijn leven zou er een stuk gemakkelijker op worden, als camerafabrikanten eenvoudiger namen zouden kiezen voor hun producten. Want bij "Nikon AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED VR II DX" denk ik niet meteen aan een product voor fotografen die net beginnen met hun hobby. Laat je niet afschrikken door die moeilijke naam. Nikon 18-200mm is het enige dat je hoeft te onthouden als je op zoek bent naar een betaalbare, veelzijdige zoomlens die geschikt is voor vrijwel elke vorm van fotografie. Dat geldt net zo goed voor de starter die (net) zijn eerste Nikon spiegelreflex camera heeft gekocht, als voor de amateurfotograaf die wil fotograferen "zonder gedoe". Of als je geen zin hebt om allerlei lenzen mee te zeulen tijdens vakantie. En de beeldkwaliteit? Natuurlijk biedt een Zwitsers zakmes niet dezelfde kwaliteit als een professionele Japanse messenset. Toch is de beeldkwaliteit van de Nikon 18-200mm een forse stap vooruit in vergelijking met smartphone of compact camera. Met een Nikon 18-200mm zal je zonder je zorgen te maken over het verwisselen van een lens, veel plezier beleven tijdens het fotograferen. Ik ken fotografen die zo blij zijn met hun Nikon 18-200mm, dat ie permanent op de camera is blijven zitten.
