The Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 is the most wide-angle lens in the Loxia range. On full frame, it is a nice wide angle; on APS-C, this lens corresponds to a 35mm on small frame. It can only be focused by hand, and it has a very classic aperture ring. That ring may be made very modernly clickless, so that this Loxia is also ideal for video. The Loxia lenses are only available for Sony cameras with an E-mount. They are classic and modern at the same time. Classic because of their solid metal construction, the lack of autofocus and the fact that you have to set the aperture with the aperture ring. Modern because the optical quality that this Loxia 21mm in particular delivers was not common thirty years ago and because the lens is hybrid. You can use it perfectly for both well-considered fine-art photography and for video. The manual focus is linear, and the aperture can be made clickless, so that the Loxias can be used as a kind of mini-cine lenses. We have now tested the lens. Here is a first impression.
De Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 is het meest groothoekige objectief in de Loxia reeks. Op full frame is het een mooie groothoek, op APS-C komt dit objectief overeen met een 35mm op kleinbeeld. Het kan alleen met de hand worden scherpgesteld en het beschikt, heel klassiek over een echte diafragmaring. Die ring kan dan weer wel heel modern klikloos worden gemaakt, zodat ook deze Loxia uitstekend geschikt is voor video. De Loxia objectieven zijn enkel verkrijgbaar voor Sony camera's met een E-vatting. Ze zijn klassiek en modern tegelijk. Klassiek vanwege hun solide, metalen constructie, het ontbreken van autofocus en het feit dat je het diafragma verplicht via de diafragmaring moet instellen. Modern omdat de optische kwaliteit die met name deze Loxia 21mm levert, dertig jaar geleden niet gebruikelijk was en omdat het objectief hybride is. Je kan het namelijk zowel perfect voor weloverwogen fine-art fotografie gebruiken als voor video. De handmatige scherpstelling is lineair en het diafragma kan klikloos worden gemaakt, zodat de Loxia's prima als een soort mini-cine objectieven kunnen worden gebruikt. We hebben het objectief inmiddels getest. Hier is alvast een eerste indruk.
